Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 device ‘in the pipeline’

Most, if not all, of Sony Ericsson’s new releases are Android phones. Case and point; their current XPERIA line, which once ran on Microsoft’s mobile operating system, now has Google’s popular open-sourced mobile platform as its OS. As such, it’s hard not to think that Sony Ericsson has given Windows Mobile the boot especially since they’ve opted to shelve Symbian, one of their other previously supported mobile operating systems, for the time being.

However, based on a new report by DigiTimes, it’s not exactly the case. In fact, they apparently have a Windows Phone 7 device “in the pipeline” already. The report, however, falls short of giving any specific details as to what the new handset will be, when it’ll arrive, and more importantly, what it’ll come with. It’s Windows Phone 7, and coming from the Sony Ericsson camp. That’s all we know for now.

If true, Sony Ericsson’s decision to try their luck again with Microsoft’s mobile platform should pay dividends for them provided they don’t dilly-dally and fool around. As they say, strike the while the iron is hot, and ol’ Sony Ericsson would be wise to follow this adage in the case of Windows Phone 7 and not wait until the hype eventually fizzles out.
