HTC must have seen a colossal gap in their portfolio between the Desire and now, the Desire S with its 3.7-inch screen, and the Desire HD that has a 4.3-inch screen, and so decisive to fill that gap with the HTC Incredible S, by announcing at MWC.
This device, clearly modelled after the Droid Incredible for Verizon, has a 4-inch screen. It will sit in between the aforesaid Desire S and Desire HD in HTC’s portfolio, both from a screen real-estate point of view, but also with regard to pricing.
Other main features of the Incredible S, aside from it being an ‘inbetweener’, is its rubbery soft finish, which has a very nice texture and makes holding the device an absolute joy. There’s no need to fear that you will drop the device or anything like that.
Incredible S has an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video recording, just like the Desire HD. As for the processor, inside the Incredible S is the same single-core 1 GHz second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that’s seen in the Desire HD and Desire S. And like the Desire S, the Incredible S will run Android Gingerbread (2.3 or 2.4). Incredible S proto that we’ve photographed and filmed was running Android 2.2.1 Froyo, but we’ve been assured that when the device ships, it will have Gingerbread on board. As for shipping, it may make the end of Q1 in some markets (given a special mention here was the UK), and general availability will start in Q2. So by the end of March, if you live in the UK, you just might be able to pick one of these puppies up.
