Vodafone announces it will stock the Nexus S and joins O2 and Everything Everywhere in confirming new Sony Ericsson device
Vodafone will stock Google’s new smartphone, the Nexus S in the UK and around the world later this month.
The operator will also stock a white version (pictured) of the handset which is exclusive to Vodafone.
Manufactured by Samsung, the Nexus S is the first phone to run Android 2.3, also called ‘Gingerbread and was originally only available in the UK through The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy UK.
The operator would not provide an exact date for the release saying only that the handset would “soon be available”.
Vodafone executive vice president and head of sales and marketing said: “Nexus S integrates Samsung’s best-in-class hardware and technology with Android’s stunning new features and user experiences.
“Vodafone group director of terminals Patrick Chomet said: “It’s great news that our customers will very soon be able to get Google’s Nexus S direct through our stores.
“At Vodafone we work closely with our partners across the industry to offer our customers a leading smartphone range that includes the latest innovations in product and user experience.”
Meanwhile Vodafone, O2, Everything Everywhere and Three have all confirmed they will stock Sony Ericsson’s latest handset the Xperia Play – also known as the ‘Sony Playstation phone’ – in the UK.
An Everything Everywhere spokesperson said: “”We can confirm that we plan to offer this device [the Xperia Play] across both our Orange and T-Mobile brands in the UK in April. More details will be available in due course.”
O2 made the announcement using its official Twitter account saying: “ Awesome news – the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is coming to O2.”
A spokesperson for O2 would not comment on the release when pressed by Mobile News.
Vodafone confirmed to Mobile News that the handset would be available through its stores but did not specify a date or pricing.
