Recycler claims to be the first such company to pay out a total of 100 million in handset fees to consumers
Mobile phone recycler Mazuma Mobile has announced its has paid out over 100 million in cash to consumers and has recycled 2.88 million phones since launching in 2006.
Mazuma is the first mobile recycler in the industry, globally, to reach this milestone, it says.
Figures released by the company show the value of old handsets received by Mazuma has increased year on year from 25 in March 2009, to 35 in March 2010, to 43 March 2011.
Mazuma Mobile managing director Charlo Carabott said: “Our success has been achieved with our emphasis on providing the best phone values, a premium customer service and our position as still being the only mobile phone recycler in the UK to provide same day payments to customers.
Carabott said the increase in recycling could be put down to the rise of smartphone usage in the UK and consumer unterstanding that the value of devices decreases quickly.
They [consumers] use mobile phone recycling as a way to offset the cost of upgrading to a new model,” Carabott said.
Mazuma recently introduced tablet recycling and the company anticipates there will be a considerable increase in people wanting to upgrade to the latest model, particularly with the launches of new tablets such as the Dell Streak, BlackBerry PlayBook, Motorola XOOM and HTC Flyer.
We have expanded our service offering to provide the same level of customer service and payment options to tablets that consumers are used to expecting when they recycle their mobile phone with Mazuma,” said Carabott.
