iPhone 4 Camera Could Top Nikon D90 on Flickr

According to reports coming out, the Apple iPhone 4’s camera is fast becoming the top camera on Flickr.

Whilst the Nikon D90 is still at the top of the most popular cameras used on the Flickr, the iPhone 4 appears to be on track to dethrone the SLR camera. According to data collected by Flickr, there has been a huge surge in the percentage of users taking photos with the Apple smartphone.

The other top 5 contenders shown on the graph supplied by Flickr are the Canon EOS Rebel T1i (5th), the Canon EOS 5D Mark II (4th) and the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi (3rd). In the list of the overall most popular cameras, the iPhone 4 is the only smartphone to be in the top 5. However, in the camera phone category, Apple products capture four of the top five spots (iPod touch, HTC Evo 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and in top spot, the iPhone 4).

However, as indicated in the article by PCMag we should take this data lightly, as the timelines do not include any dates, and as noted by MacObserver, it can be difficult to detect what kind of camera was used when an image is uploaded to the Flickr site. However, regardless of this, it would appear that the trend is heading towards people using their smartphone cameras rather than their standalone cameras.

Now this is great news for Apple especially with the eagerly anticipated release of the iPhone 5, which we initially expected to come with an 8-megapixel camera supplied by Sony. However, recent rumours and speculation indicate that the new apple smartphone could possibly come with a massive 12.6 megapixel camera sensor supplied by OmniVision; we will keep you informed if we hear anything more on this.
