Today’s Mobile News in Brief (June 16, 2011)

As reported here on Cell Phones Etc. and across the Web, here’s your daily brief on what happened in the world of mobile phones this Thursday, June 16th, 2011.

Infuse 4G Coming Exclusively To Rogers, Its First 21Mbps Smartphone
If you’re of the gambling type who wagered on Samsung’s Canadian launch partner for the Infuse 4G, you can settle up those bets: the phone is coming exclusively to Rogers this summer — and it’s shipping with Gingerbread. For those familiar with AT&T’s story, it should come as no surprise that the carrier quickly highlighted the Sammy as its first smartphone capable of pulling in 21Mbps — good luck attaining those numbers, though. Sadly, the release date and price of this 4.5-inch beast remain up in the air, but that might just be an opening for some high-stakes speculation.

WIND Mobile Launches “Unlimited Business Solutions”
In a press release this morning WIND stated that “Every business can mix and match plans for each team member, change plans as needed, and with no term-contracts, businesses don’t have to worry about penalties or cancellation fees. WIND also offers more deals as companies grow with savings of up to $5 per month on each additional line. This means a team of four can save more than $3,000 a year when compared to similar plans from the incumbents”.

LG Dual Screen Android Phone

Mystery Dual Screen LG Handset Snapped, Possibly Flip II
This T-Mo LG phone caught our eye because of the display between the keys which made us think “better look this one up, probably a US exclusive handset”. Exclusive indeed. It’s fairly hefty device, fatter than the Milestone 2, with LG being fairly generous with the bodywork. It bears some of the same design cues as the LG Quantum/LG Optimus 7Q around the front speaker, and picks up the four touch controls under the screen as we saw on the LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black.

Revolutionary Mobile Search Queries Apps Instead Of The Web
Mobile search startup Do@ is changing how we hunt for information on our phones. Typically, if you want to find something while you’re out and about, you turn to the mobile web and spend a few minutes on a search engine’s mobile website. Wouldn’t it be easier to have a single utility that searched a slew of mobile apps and websites for the exact thing you need, returning just the pages most relevant to you? That’s Do@‘s premise and mission: to create a revolutionary mobile search experience.

A China-Made Knockoff Phone Electrocuted And Killed A Man
In a horrifically sad story, Dhanji Damor, a 25-year-old man in India, was electrocuted when he used a “shanzai cell phone” while it was charging. Shanzai means it’s a knockoff, an imitation, a fake made in China. Damor’s friends rushed him to the hospital but when they arrived, doctors pronounced him dead due to electrocution. This isn’t even the first time a poorly made, knockoff phone has killed someone in India.
